I am a multidisciplinary designer. I practice strategy, simplicity, and usability. I'm inspired to collaborate with brilliant, passionate people to make the world's digital products stronger, smarter, and more fun to use.
With a background in sociology and sculpture, and over a decade of experience in user-centered design for the web, software, kiosks, and devices, I am exceptionally adept at detecting and predicting behavioral patterns. I have put these abilities to work for a wide range of industries and companies, including Toyota, Yellow Pages, Sun, Microsoft, Target, CNET, frog design, AKQA, and Saatchi & Saatchi.
I believe that smart design trumps slick visuals every time, and there's always a balance to be struck between them. My approach is to listen closely and analyze rigorously before acting. I'm a thinking designer. I contribute graceful, flexible, forward-thinking solutions to complex design problems, resulting in better, more successful products.
When I'm not thoughtfully placing pixels, I can be found chasing my other passions: travel, hiking, snowboarding, and SCUBA diving. A California native, I don't describe much as "weird" and I can easily keep a straight face while saying "dude". On the flip side, I wear a sweater when the temperature dips to 79ºF / 26ºC.
I'm currently happily employed at R/GA.
